iPhone X vs. OnePlus 6 Comparison. Which is Better?

Despite the slow demand for iPhone X in several countries, Apple has continued to keep its spot in the global premium smartphone market, always close by is the South Korean giant, Samsung. However, the Chinese smartphone company OnePlus managed to capture a spot in the top five smartphone manufacturers. The surge of smartphones in the gadget world has often left customers confused as to which phone to buy. In this article, we’ll focus on the Apple iPhone X and the OnePlus 6 because the market is flooded with these two phones right now and many have had trouble deciding which is best. Apple users especially have been seeking an answer to this ultimate question – Should they move to OnePlus?

OnePlus Is Half The Price But Does It Beat Apple?

To compare the OnePlus 6 with the iPhone X is a rather interesting endeavor. We’re not just comparing differences in the operating system, there are also substantial differences in the price tag. These are two of the best flagships in the market today and it’s time to place them head to head.

SCREEN SIZE

OnePlus comes with a 6.28”(15.95cm) AMOLED panel and is significantly bigger than the 5.8”(14.73cm) Super Retina display of the iPhone X. While the OnePlus 6 it does fit well in your pocket, one hand usage can be a little tricky as it is also a little wider at 75.3mm when compared to 70.0mm of the iPhone.

BODY

Both devices are made completely from glass which gives both of them a very glossy look. If you were to close your eyes and hold both the devices you wouldn’t feel much of a difference. So, when you compare the pricing, OnePlus is giving you the same premium feel at a much lesser cost. They weigh almost the same at 174 grams and 177 grams for the iPhone and OnePlus, respectively. One big advantage that iPhone has is its water-resistant body (up to 30 minutes in 1m depth) while the One Plus is only splash proof.

CAMERA

The iPhone boasts of a 16-megapixel (12MP+12MP) dual camera with the portrait camera on top. OnePlus, on the other hand, has really upped the ante here and comes with a 16 MP + 20 MP dual camera which provides very high high-quality images even in low light and truly brings out the colors. iPhone is not too far behind, though, as it offers optical image stabilization, in both picture and video modes unlike the OnePlus. OnePlus 6 takes the driver’s seat with its 12MP front camera which has the ability to take sharp, attractive selfies. However, the 7 MP front camera of the iPhone is still very capable.

INTERNAL

OnePlus has an Octa-Core processor operating on Android v8.1(Oreo) coupled with the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset and 6 GB RAM with 64 or 128 GB storage or an option with  8 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage. iPhone comes with a Hexa-Core processor with an iOS v11.0.1 operating system and an A11 Bionic chipset with 3 GB RAM and storage options of 64 or 256GB. This is where OnePlus has really taken a big lead as it offers more power and more options at a significantly lower price as compared to the iPhone. Still, performance wise the iPhone will be able to easily handle every-day use.  Another point of difference is the sim slots. OnePlus is dual sim while iPhone has continued with its traditional single sim slot.

BATTERY

This is something which people didn’t pay much attention to a few years ago but with the increase in screen size and high-performance processors, battery life has become a deal breaker. OnePlus has always been good in this department and has continued to perform well as it comes with a 3300mAh battery which will easily last a day. Even though both offer a fast charger, which gives a full charge in an hour, iPhone’s 2716mAh battery which doesn’t quite stand up to the OnePlus’s.

MULTIMEDIA

iPhone grabbed major headlines for better or for worse when it did away with the 3.5mm headphone jack. With opinions still divided on this, OnePlus chose to play it safe and has retained the 3.5mm headphone jack. Doing away with the headphone jack meant Apple could provide speakers on both sides of the charging port as compared to a single speaker in the OnePlus.

LOCK SCREEN

While both devices offer the simpler ways of unlocking like the PIN and Pattern unlock the main debating point is the fingerprint scanner and the revolutionary Face ID lock. When it comes to fingerprint, OnePlus has retained its sensor on the backside of the phone while the iPhone has replaced its fingerprint scanner with its Face ID unlock feature.

COLORS

OnePlus 6 comes in four different colors – Mirror black, Midnight Black, Silk White, and Red. The iPhone X, on the other hand, comes in Space Grey and Silver only.

PRICE

OnePlus 6 pricing starts at $529 / £469 (about AU$700) for the cheapest version and the most expensive costs $629 / £569 (about AU$840). For the iPhone X, the price starts at $999 / £999 / AU$1,579 for the 64GB one, while the 256GB one is much more expensive at $1,149 / £1,149 / AU$1,829

What’s Your Pick?

Ultimately, it all boils down to what purpose you are looking to be solved with the smartphone. Different personality or interests have different needs and require different features from a phone. Here’s a list of some groups along with the phone that would be better suited for each of them:

  •    Food Bloggers – OnePlus 6 would definitely work as a better option for them because of its great quality camera since they need to click the perfect food shots.
  •    Social Media Influencers – Again, the OnePlus 6 wins because of its longer battery life since they must constantly stay updated on social media all day long.
  •    Businessmen – Usually businessmen need to be on their phone 24/7 to check emails, calendars or take business calls round the clock which would obviously require a longer battery life, making OnePlus 6 the winner again.
  •    Students – If you don’t have a budget to stick to you can definitely go ahead and splurge on the iPhone X, but if money is a major factor then you are definitely better off with the OnePlus.

Our Final Verdict

Both phones are top-end and are going to satisfy all your flagship phone needs. However, the most glaring difference is that for the Apple iPhone X you’ll have to shell out a lot more money. But that’s not new for Apple devices. It does have slightly more features built-in than the OnePlus like iCloud, Facetime, and iTunes. Being an established brand already Apple obviously has that extra edge. It ultimately boils down to whether you want to be on Android or iOS and how much you’re willing to spend on your new phone.
