iPhone 14 Released: Everything You Need To Know

iPhone 14 Released: Everything You Need To Know

The Apple iPhone 14 series is now official and is ready to be released. The new iPhones were made official at Apple’s Far Out event. And as speculated, there have been some controversial changes to this year’s iPhone lineup.

iPhone 14 Release Date

The iPhone 14, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max are set to be released on September 16th, 2022. With iPhone 14 Plus release date being scheduled later to October 7th, 2022.

New Features and Changes

Here are some of the major changes and new features coming to the newly released iPhone 14:

  • Apple has killed off the Mini iPhone series in favor of a bigger screen version of the base iPhone model. Now called the iPhone 14 Plus, sporting a 6.7-inch screen.
  • In a controversial move by Apple, the non-Pro iPhone 14s now ship with last year’s A15 Bionic chip. So only the Pro iPhones get the new A16 Bionic. Further widening the gap between the Pro and non-Pro iPhones. And no, this is not an iPhone 14 thing only. It’s going to happen with every future iPhone lineup.
  • The Pro iPhones now come with a larger 1/1.3-inch camera sensor. And in one of the biggest changes to the iPhone 14 Pro series, the Pro iPhone 14s now features a high-resolution 48MP camera.
  • iPhones can now shoot 8k videos. This is as a result of the new 48MP camera on the Pro iPhone 14s. So only the Pro iPhones have 8k recording.
  • The Pro models now come with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that can go as low as 1Hz when your screen is static to save battery.
  • One of the standout features of the new iPhones is the long-rumored Satellite Connectivity. This feature allows the iPhone 14s to send messages via a Satellite connection without the need for an internet connection.
  • Another big change to the newly released Pro iPhone lineup is the new pill shape cutout. And the introduction of Dynamic Island. It’s basically a feature that embraces the notch and uses it to display UI elements, timers, etc
  • In an unexpected move, Apple has switched to eSim only in the US. Taking out the sim tray in US iPhone 14 models only.

Screen Burn: Causes, Prevention, and How to Fix It

What is Screen Burn?

Screen burn, also called screen burn-in, ghost image, or display burns are images or icons that are displayed on a screen when they should not be there. Screen burn comes on gradually and gets worse over time and is most common on OLED screens. The navigation bar, the top status bar, or home screen apps are frequent images that get  “burned” into the display.

Until someone mentions it, many people don’t even realize their phone has screen burn. And there are two reasons for this:

1. You aren’t looking at your phone screen with a white display. Screen burn is easiest to notice on an all-white or blank screen with no icons on it. And it is rare that your phone will display an all-white screen. This is why SmartphonesPLUS uses industry-leading phone diagnosis software and other tools that allow us to see phone screens on an all-white screen, along with other tests, to examine each phone we receive thoroughly.

2. You do not change your home screen layout or background image. You look at the same phone, with the same background every day, and can’t notice the screen burn because the icons and apps on the phone are always in the same position. It is much easier to notice screen burn when you shift the layout of icons and apps on your home screen.

Here’s an example we think relates to screen burn to help explain why it’s not as noticeable: when you see a person every day that is losing weight you don’t notice how much weight they lost, but if you saw a person you haven’t seen in over a year that lost 50 pounds you would notice right away. In the same way, your eyes and mind adjust to the screen burn as it gradually burns into the display over months or years.

What Causes Screen Burn?

Screen burn is caused by pixels displaying the same image or icon for an extended period of time. Static images such as apps, navigation bars, and keyboards can deteriorate pixels in the display from overuse. This causes these over-used pixels to look darker in color than others around them. Certain areas of the screen like status bars are more susceptible to screen burn as they are constantly displaying the same image.

Here are a few examples of screen burn:

Screen burn on the navigation bar of a Google Pixel:

The bottom navigation bar, top status bar, and keyboard screen burn on a Samsung Galaxy display:

Screen burn of apps on a white screen of an iPhone X:

As you can tell from the photos, screen burn can make the display look discolored with darker pink or gray hues. Because of its gradual onset, many users don’t even realize their display has screen burn. If you would like to check for screen burn on your phone, put your phone on a white screen. A white screen will provide contrast making the discolored pixels more noticeable.

How Can You Prevent Screen Burn?

Periodically Change What Displays on Your Screen

You can avoid the deterioration of pixels by changing the image that your device displays. Try to change the positions of apps and backgrounds periodically.

Lower Your Brightness

Lowering the brightness will lengthen the life of the pixels in your display. Keeping the brightness as low as possible will ensure that screen burn won’t happen as quickly.

Do Not Use Screen Savers

Avoid screen savers when your screen times out as they are generally static images that are displayed for a long period of time. Screen savers will cause the pixels of your display to be overworked when you are not even using your device. If you have a phone that uses always on display, make sure to turn this off to prolong the life of your screen’s pixels.

How To Fix Screen Burn

There are some apps and videos out there that claim they can fix screen burn, however, the results tend to be insignificant as it is a hardware issue of the display. The only way to truly fix screen burn is to replace the entire display of the phone. If you’d like to speak with a technician to see the cost of replacing a screen you can make an appointment or contact us.

The iPhone 12 Release: What’s New, Prices, Colors, Highest Trade In

iPhone 12 Is Here! What’s new?

Apple has finally released its highly-anticipated iPhones of 2020. So what’s new with all the latest iPhone 12’s? The new iPhone 12 lineup comes with the fastest chipset ever in the iPhone, stunning OLED displays, and all models have the 5G Ultra Wideband cellular connectivity which was hinted at before the Apple release event. They teased 5G before the event with the theme name” Hi, Speed.” Apple had a few surprises up their sleeve with new colors and other unique upgrades.

4 Different Models: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max

Apple has announced the release of its flagship iPhones which includes 4 new models – the most ever. They are the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. It seems as though Apple has made an iPhone for everyone. Let’s dive into a brief introduction to each before getting to the price of each iPhone 12 and where to get the highest trade in value for your old iPhone.

iPhone 12 mini Specs

First up is the iPhone 12 mini. Apple has created an iPad mini, a Mac mini, and now an iPhone mini. It is just as it sounds – an iPhone, but just mini. It has all the great features and the same sleek design as the iPhone 12 just in a more pocket-friendly size. It has a dual-camera system similar to the iPhone 11, but expect some software changes that will boost the quality of images and video.

iPhone 12 Specs

Now, the iPhone 12 is most similar to popular iPhones we’ve come to be familiar with in prior years like the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR. Like these models and the new mini iPhone, the iPhone 12 still has the aluminum body. The only major difference is that the frame is sharper around the edges instead of having rounded curves. Many say it reminds them of some older models of iPhone with this design including the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 4.

What are the iPhone 12 Colors?

The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 come in 5 different colors: White, Black, Green, (PRODUCT) RED, and all-new Blue.

iPhone 12 Pro Specs

Apple has also released 2 Pro models similar to last year. This year’s iPhone 12 Pro comes in a stainless steel, flat edge frame design with a 3 camera system. Like the others in the iPhone 12 series, the 12 Pro also has 5G connectivity and an OLED Super Retina XDR display that has a slightly higher pixel density than last year’s iPhone 11 Pro (460 PPI vs 458 PPI). The iPhone 12 Pro will have internal storage starting at 128GB vs the base 64GB of last year. It will also come in 256GB and 512GB models.

iPhone 12 Pro Max Specs

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is, of course, a bit bigger than the others in the 12 series. It has a 6.7-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display. For comparison, the iPhone 12 Pro has a 6.1-inch display. Its triple camera system has a 2.5x optical zoom and digital zoom up to 12x while the iPhone 12 Pro’s camera has 2x and 10x, respectively. So, if the camera is important to you you may want to consider the 12 Pro Max. Because of its bigger size, it also has the space for a bigger battery which gives the 12 Pro Max a 3-hour video playback time advantage over the 12 Pro.

What are the iPhone 12 Pro Colors?

The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will come in pacific blue, gold, graphite, and silver.

iPhone 12 Price

The iPhone 12 mini will start at $699 while the iPhone 12 will cost $100 more at $799. The iPhone 12 Pro will start at $999 and the iPhone 12 Pro Max at $1099. Of course, the higher GB storage sizes will cost even more. None of the iPhone 12’s come with expandable storage. Other iPhones like the iPhone 11 & iPhone XR have seen a drop in price. Check out the online store to get the best prices on iPhones.
