Google Pixel 8 release

Google is set to officially unveil its latest Pixel smartphone at it’s October Keynote event. Luckily, we already know almost everything there is to know about the upcoming release thanks to Google Pixel 8 leaks from trusted sources, including Google themselves. The upcoming Pixel phone is packing some serious upgrades, so here’s…

What to Expect From the Google Pixel 8

Flat Screen on the Pixel 8 Pro

With the Pixel 8 series, Google is moving away from using curved screens on their Pro phones to using flat screens. This marks the end to Google’s two-year run of using curved screens on their Pro phone. If you’re someone like me who loves how curved screens make phones look, then this is a disappointment, but it seems most people now prefer flat screens. So for most, this is a change they’ve been looking forward to.

5hz-120hz LTPO display

According to Google Pixel 8 leaks, the LTPO screen is getting an upgrade on the Google Pixel 8 Pro. The refresh rate of the Pixel 8 Pro will be able to go as low as 5 Hz, compared to 10 Hz on the Pixel 7 Pro. So you should expect a smoother experience along with better battery life.

5 Years of Major Android OS Update

This is one of the biggest changes coming to the Google Pixel 8 series this year! According to leaks from reliable sources, Google is currently gearing up to launch a record five years of major OS updates in this series. This is going to be a first in the Android world, surpassing current record holders Samsung (4 years of major OS updates) and finally matching Apple. So, the Google Pixel 8 will launch with Android 14 and will receive the Android 19 update in 5 years!

Dex for Pixels (Desktop Mode Support)

The Google Pixel 8 series will launch with USB C display output, giving it features similar to Dex on Samsung phones. If you don’t know,  Dex is a really cool feature that allows you to turn your Samsung phone into a PC using any external display. Most likely, Google won’t just copy and paste Samsung Dex, so we could see Google’s desktop mode being something like Chrome OS.

Low-Light Video Recording

According to leaks from reputable sources, we can expect to see massive improvements in the night video recording of the Google Pixel 8 series. Google is adding a feature rumored to be Night Sight for videos. So nighttime videos on the Google Pixel 8 series could go to levels we’ve never seen before on a smartphone.

Audio Magic Eraser

If you’ve been on the internet these past 2 years, you might have come across one of the Pixel phone’s most popular features, the Magic Eraser. If you haven’t heard, it’s a feature that can erase or cut out anything from a picture. Now Google is giving us an audio version of that.

According to the leaked video, the new Audio Magic Eraser would allow you to reduce or cut out any background noise. It will probably do more than that, but we’ll have to wait to hear more from Google to find out.

Video Unblur

Another cool feature coming to the Google Pixel 8 series is video unblur. Much like the Photo Unblur, the new Video Unblur will be able to unblur blurry parts of a video or the entire video itself.

120 Hz screen on the Pixel 8

Current and last-gen non-pro Google Pixel flagship phones only had a 90 Hz refresh rate screen. Well, that is set to change this year, as we’ve gotten confirmation that the vanilla Pixel 8 will have a 120 Hz high refresh rate screen. What we’re yet to find out is if Google will be generous enough to give us an LTPO screen with adaptive refresh rate on the Pixel 8.

A Thermometer?

A rather shocking new feature Google is adding to the Pixel 8 Pro is a thermometer. There’s going to be a spot on the back of the Google Pixel 8 Pro just below the LED flash. With this new sensor, you’ll be able to measure your body temperature.
